I had never fainted in my life until they put me on the tilt table and made me faint. i take 1/2 of a 50mg per day and they said i should take it the rest of my life. i am 66 years old andevery checkup i get they say i am in excellant health. my question is that some told me there are things i shouldn't eat as it would be as if i didn't take the toprol. grapefruit is something i eat 1/2 of every morning.they say that is one thing i shouldn't eat.i take my pill at night so i won't forget it. am i eating somrthing i should not? There are some medications that interact with grapefruit, but metoprolol isn't one of them, at least according to this site where dietary restrictions associated with the drug are given:http://www.metoprolol.com/product_info_5.htmNote also these authoritative NIH pages:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202087.htmlhttp://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682864.html#special-dietaryNo mention of grapefruit interaction is made.Other common hypertension drugs, such as felodopine, do interact, and that may be where the confusion arose. Metoprolol is a beta-adrenergic receptor blocker, not a calcium channelblocker. It operates via a different mechanism and therefore doesnot exhibit the same cross-reactions.xarqi38514.9106888079
