My Garmin S2 will not pick up golf courses also I had my watch in Arizona and on Arizona time, the watch does not recognize it is now in EDS time zone
JA: What is the exact model of your Garmin? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Garmin approach S2, I believe it is about 5 years old, the serial number is *****
JA: What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: The watch was dormant all winter long, from about November. I restarted the watch for my trip to Arizona but it would not pick up the course out there as well
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I don't have a manual that tells me what trouble shooting to do and how to do it.
JA: Anything else you want the GPS expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Sorry I didn't see your question earlier and to hear of any issue you are having with your device.

To help you with this issue, may I ask:

1) When and where did the S2 operate SUCCESSFULLY (correct time and finding courses)?

2) Was the device FULLY charged after being put away for the winter?

3) WHEN was the device in Arizona and where is it now?

4) Does the device get a satellite signal LOCK - once put into golf mode?

1) I operated the device in November 2016
2)The device had been used for the day and was left to run down so was not fully charged.
3)I was in Arizona with the device March 17. currently it is in Simcoe Ontario, Canada.
4) It seems that it will locate the satellite but then says no course in the area even though I am on a course.

Hi again and thanks for that information.

OK - the FIRST thing(s) I would try are the "Soft Reset" and "Master Reset" of the device, to see if the "course memory" can be recovered from the internal memory.

BUT - it may be that the battery was drained so low over the winter, that the memory got "corrupted" or is not accessible anymore. If that is the case, and if the resets are not effective, UPDATING the device software (and courses at the same time) would be the next logical step.

The software and course updates are done using a computer with the "Garmin Express" program installed and running. Then the device is "added" to the program when the device is connected to the computer via the charge/data cable.

I have the "reset" procedures below, IF you want to try them first, and then a link to where you can get Garmin Express downloaded and installed on your computer. NOTE: The computer will have to have internet access, and HIGH SPEED access is highly recommended.

To Soft Reset the Approach:
=======================
- Press and hold Light/Power
- Wait until screen goes blank (approximately 10 seconds)
- Release Light/Power
- Press and hold Light/Power
- When the device powers on, release Light/Power

The Approach will now restart. If the device is still unresponsive, connect the watch to the computer and then follow the above steps again.

To Master Reset the Approach (S1 & S2):
===========================
- Power the Approach off (Press and hold LIGHT/POWER button until device powers off)
- Press and hold DOWN
- Press LIGHT/POWER
- Release DOWN and LIGHT/POWER when screen displays Clear user data?
- Select Yes

The device should now be reset to default factory settings, and the device should function as expected

I tried your soft reset approach but it did not work. I also tried the Master reset approach but I can't seem to get connected, the message I get back is can't recognize my account.

Hi again,

When you say "soft reset approach but it did not work", does that mean that the reset could NOT be performed at all, or that it did not make any CHANGE?

I have the same question about the Master Reset.

Plus, what are you seeing that makes it "seem to not get connected"?

And WHEN and WHERE are you seeing the message about "can't recognize my account"? Is that message on the Approach, on the computer, etc.?
