I have just done an update and all my maps and saved

I have just done an update and all my maps and saved journeys have no vanished. Device is showing no map data available and the TOOLS icon has gone
JA: What's the make/model of your GPS unit? How old is it?
Customer: Nuvi 1410
JA: What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: I plugged the device into my computer to do the update which, according to my screen, was successful
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I can't really do anything as the icon for the tools menu has also gone

Customer: Then I cant' see what remedy you might be suggesting

Ok, well the maps and saved journeys are stored in the Nuvi's memory - inside the unit.

If they are gone, and there is no backup to recover them from, then I'm afraid there is no way to recover them.

Since the Tools icon is also missing, it seems that the update did not work correctly or has become corrupted somehow, so you will need to attempt another update, or perform a factory reset on the device.

To perform a Master Reset on your Garmin Nuvi 1410:

  • Start with the device switched off and unplugged from power.
  • Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen.
  • Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then press the power button.
  • Release the power button when the device powers on.
  • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  • Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays.
  • Tap Yes (Button on the right).

Your device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then take your device outdoors to acquire satellites.
