Due to the age of that unit, this is what I suggest.. A full all points covered update.
Theres three main areas we need to be concerned with. The Aviation map data files, the region file, and the internal software. Below are three links that address each area.
And here is a video that covers the update process.
Though each individual page should also have update instructions on it.
If you get stuck or have any further questions, let me know.

The software updates help the antennaes accurately track and connect with the gps sattelites...
And while it may not seem like you need a map file or region update, those are also parts of the software that can degrade over time like any data can.. A reinstall of all three major pieces of software and the databases within are what is needed to restore accuracy in these type of devices, whether aviation, hiking or automotive.
The only alternative diagnosis would be that the internal logic board has faulted, as any machine loses its reliability / accuracy and precision over time. I figure the updates are mainly free, its only the Jeppensen database that costs anything ( 50$ )
And that would be a less expensive fix then even one of the lowest cost, modern Aviation GPS offerings.
Though, there is a lot to be said for a unit thats over ten years newer...
