- How old is the Garmin device in question?
- have you updated it lately? if not, I will suggest a means to update it, in detail.

Your Garmin has just plain got to be defective from the store or from the vendor, that sold it to you.
I would advise you to pack it up in the original packaging and return it ASAP as defective, for a return-exchange or a return-and-refund, if it is still within the store or vendor's return-exchange period.
If it is not, let me know, and I will advise you further.
