hi Pearl. My Garmin Edge 705 isn't being recognised by my Garmin Express
JA: What is the exact model of your Garmin? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Edge 705. Its at least 5 yrs old
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: operating it on another computer
JA: The GPS expert can solve this for you. Anything else you want him to know before I connect you two?
Customer: doing a software update - but need to pair with express to do this?

This is usually an issue with the Firmware, so I would first like you to do this please.

Remove the charger from the Garmin and hold the power button to off for 60 seconds.

Release, then connect the charger and try to turn on the Garmin and connect it.

disconnected USB from computer.
pressed and held power button for 60 seconds
device switched off and on again during the 60 seconds
re-plugged the device USB to computerstill not connecting to Garmin Express

Shut down your Mac.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.

Turn on your Mac.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.

Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.

Release the keys.

When the mac starts, connect it and tell me if it now is detected please.

We need to reset the Garmin. This will remove all data and return it to new.

To do this

  1. Power device OFF
  2. Press and hold MODE and POWER
  3. Release both buttons once Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data? message appears
  4. Select Yes

Once done, set it up and tell me if it then connects please
