Hello & Welcome to Just Answer,
Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with your GPS.
May I ask:
1) The AGE of the device?
2) WHEN the device was last used successfully?
Thanks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
about 5 years but haven't used it much
Maybe about a year ago

Hi again and thanks for that information.
OK - it could be that the battery is just VERY LOW, but hopefully not completely worn out (time does that).
May I ask what power source you connected to and for what length of time?
Thanks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Plugged in to my computer for the updates. Also let me know how long they usually last.

Hi again,
For how long did you have the device connected to the computer?
And did it "come on" when you connected it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Had it connected about 10 minutes and it turned on at first but then turned off and would not turn back on.

OK - very good. That is what might be expected if the internal battery has not been charged for a year or more.
So you MAY be able to restore proper operation by charging the device for a LONGER period of time.
If connecting to a computer, I would recommend AT LEAST TWO HOURS - before attempting to do anything with the device. FOUR HOURS or more would be better.
If connecting to a Vehicle Power adapter (higher power), I would recommend AT LEAST ONE HOUR, and of course TWO HOURS or more would be better.
What I believe is the issue is that the internal battery is just VERY LOW on charge - and hopefully not "worn out" (age will do that).
Can you do that longer charge - via a computer OR vehicle power adapter?
Thanks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
OK I will try charging it for 4 hours and if you can call later or tomorrow I will let you know. Thanks
Expert:  Greg A. replied 1 year ago.
Hi again,
That sounds like a plan.
NOTE: I can not call (no phone available currently), but if you can come back here after a few hours, we can continue at that time.
Also, if you are using the computer to charge, make sure the computer is NOT in any "power saving" mode, as some computers turn OFF the USB ports - to save power.
I will look for your results later today (or tomorrow).
Thanks, ***** *****
