mu garmin has decided not to function. says it has no maps...

mu garmin has decided not to function. says it has no maps... the screen comes up with no data available..says no detailed maps found.
last year I paid for life time map updates. what happens is this unit is worn out and I have to buy another one?

Ok, from the main screen, click Tools, then click Settings, then click Maps, then click Info.

You are on the right page, scroll down until you see Map Info. It should be just above Restore and just below Trip Log.

That's what I need information on.

As for your follow up question, Lifetime Maps are tied to a singe GPS unit so you would lose them if you purchased a new GPS however Garmin offers many GPS units now with Lifetime Maps. Look for the suffix LM or LMT after the number.

Please let me know about the Map Info screen so that we can continue.

I need to go to a drs appt. I think this machine is not fixable since I can't follow your instructions. Just keep the $5.00 deposit and cancel the rest. I will just go buy a new one.


My preference would have been to be able to talk to a rep and not email. This process is entirely too long ..


I appreciate your help but will just cut my losses and move forward.

no.. there is a Nuvi 2455lmt auto gps style 010-01001-29 for 119. 99.. which is $50.00 off mfg... I assume that is a good one.. does lmt mean lifetime maps?

Yes. LMT indicates lifetime maps AND traffic reports.
