Question.. When you connect the Garmin Nuvi to your PC, and turn it on.

And if you then go to your start, my computer / computer screen.

Do we see the Nuvi 1390 listed as a device with removable storage? ( like you would see a usb flash drive shown, or a camera )

Excllent.. Then the Nuvi has a data connection to the computer, and now we know the issue is with the garmin software on your PC..

Next if you could, please do the following so I know you can get back to me, in case we lose the connection.


. First, lets make sure that you have set a password XXXXX a username or email address for your justanswer account.. At the top right of this page, click account.

Then set a password, set a username.. And once thats set..

at the top right click my questions, and you should see our question Click the title of the question ( or click reply to expert ) and you will be back here.


Once that is done,, lets start trying to repair the issue.

Please open Internet explorer , and then click this link

On that page, download and install the new version of the garmin communicator plugin.
Once it is installed, please close all internet explorer windows, and then open internet explorer again.

Now, go to this link

Internet explorer ( and your computer ) shoudl now be able to see your garmin connected.. On that screen it should say that your Nuvi 1390 is connected, and it should allow you to update its software as needed...

As far as garmin express itself.. ( which is just a different way of doing what we just did)

You probably need to go to your start, control panel, uninstall a program.. And uninstall garmin express.. Then reinstall it from this link
