I purchased a Garmin nuvi 255w two years ago and all the software was preloaded. Can you tell me how to update the data via the internet?thanksdave sullivan XXX-XXX-XXXX

Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. I'm Steve. Thanks for asking your question. I'm sorry to hear about your GPS.
The GPS should have come with a USB cable so that you can connect it to the computer.
When you do this, you should see some notification that the GPS is connected.
Then go to this page on your PC: https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm?deviceType=automotive&activeTab=&rce=windows
Then follow the instructions to purchase and download your maps.
If for some reason, your computer cannot find the GPS, you may need to install drivers. Those are here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591
Download and install those on your PC and then go back to the start and try again.
