Hello! My name is XXXXX XXXXX X am happy to be working with you today. Let's see if we can get your problem resolved!

This may be a simple software problem. Reload the system software by sliding and holding the power switch for 30 seconds. The GPS should come back online within 3 minutes. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Please rate my answer positively once you're satisfied with my answer. If you aren't please reply instead of rating negatively so I can continue to help you.

Hello & Welcome,

It looks like your previous expert has opened your question for other experts to try and help, so let's see if I can do that for you.

Based on what appears to the the serial number of the unit you supplied (ao3271b00021), that unit appears to be a Start 20, VIA 110, or or VIA 220 with TTS (Text To Speech).

Does that sound familiar or correct? If so, I may have a simple solution for you.

Hi again,

Its good to hear that it is working again - at least for now.

But let me send along a little bit more information - just in case the issue comes back, and especially if you get a message on the screen that says something like "waiting for valid GPS signal".

There may be a relatively simple fix for you. I understand that the unit may be relatively new, but the unit software that is in the system is probably what was put on there during manufacturing, or some other version from earlier this year.

There is a "required" update to the system software having to do with 2012 leap year. It has some strange symptoms, such as you have described, and it doesn't happen to all units or doesn't happen every day. You may have received a notification of this if the unit was registered, but if not, you can learn about it and do the update from the link below. There is a short video (2 minutes) that explains the process at the top of the page (look for the "Watch Video" link).

Required Update <-- Click Here

Please take a few minutes to look at the video, and then do the update, in the exact sequence listed on that page and in the video. Please DO NOT SKIP any of the steps, even if you may have done them recently.

Note: After you do the last step, please know that it can take a LONG time (sometimes 30 minutes) to find and "lock on" the satellite signals the first time. But it is easier for the unit to get this lock if it is stationary and powered from the vehicle power. So it might be best to mount the unit in a parked vehicle with a clear view of the sky, and attached it to vehicle power.

Please give this a try and let me know your results. I believe you will find that your unit is much more stable and reliable after the update.

Hi again,

Thanks for letting me know that you are trying these steps.

As a reminder, please follow ALL steps - in sequence. Do not skip any steps, even if done recently, and leave the device in a stationary position and powered after that last reboot.

Please let me know what happens.
