I keep getting "error has occurred" message whenever trying to update my current map, and the task shuts down. I have a 2555LM with lifetime updates.
Already Tried: Going to the map update site. I tried updating a couple of months ago, but was never successful in completing the task.
Hi and thank you for your question. I will be happy to assist you.Click here to download the latest Garmin lifetime updater desktop application. Download and install the program and then connect your device to the computer. Run the program and it will automatically detect your device and its subscription. Once it scans it, it will prompt you to install the update. Try installing the update this alternate way. Also disable any firewalls you may have as they may interfere with the download at times.
I can't find where to click to get the application you reference.
Sorry,>Click Here<
I am still encountering the same problem. When going to the update, the screen first says the "update was interrupted." It then tries to start and after about a minute it then comes back with an unexpected error has occurred.
Ok do you have a firewall enabled on your computer?
Not to my knowledge. My local computer tech's told me not to use them with the anti-virus software I am using (Avast). But how do I check just in case.
In the bottom right hand corner of your screen you should see tiny icons. THere should be an AVAST icon, right click it and you should be able to disable it from there and then retry the update.
Sorry! But still same problem. Can I try downloading directly to my computer instead of the GPS? The update keeps telling me that it is resuming the download, which I think was interrupted when I tried to update a couple of months ago, and gave up because it was taking so long.
What method did you use previous to me posting the lifetime updater app?
I think I was using the same method. When I downloaded your application, the option I used was to repair the updater, which is what I did. Should I try uninstalling the updater on my computer now, and then go back to the one you provided?
Lets try a different method to download it directly from the website. Log in to your myGarmin account at www.garmin.com and then click myDashboard. Select your device and on the following page it will say there are updates available. CLick the link to get the maps updated and follow the on screen instructions. Try that method. Again ensure your firewall is down during the download.
Experience: 5+ years repairing various GPS models.
Sorry to tell you this, but when I access the garmin update site, it still tells me my GPS contains the 2012.20 version instead of the 2013.10 version.
Did the update complete all the way through on the website?
Sorry to be so late getting back. It appears that it did complete all the way. I am not that concerned about it right now, but may need the updated version later this year. I am happy with your service, as we did finally get further along than I was doing on my own.
Thank you. If you need further assistance please let me know. Have a great day!
