I recently returned from wintering in the USA and when I went to use my GPS, it would not change back over to Canadian. I had used it for Canada the year previous. It is a Garmin nuvi 1450
Already Tried: Where it says change state or country, I put in Ontario and it says no matches found. When I first select the address, the bar reads Minnesota.
Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. I'm Steve. Thanks for asking your question. I'm sorry to hear about your GPS.
Can you put in 'Canada'. The message instructs you to put in State or Country.
Try typing in Canada.

I tried putting in Canada and it said no matches found
And you have not updated the maps since you were last in Canada?
No, I believe I updated them while I was in the US
It sounds like you only updated the lower 48 states, not the whole of North America.
Go to Tools>Settings>Maps and then press INFO.
Tell me what it says.
I do not have Settings under Tools. Do I need the Garmin plugged in?
No no....on your Garmin. From the main screen, press Tools then Settings then Maps then INFO.
Let me know.
Sorry Steve. You are dealing with a 73 year old who is not that good at these new electronic gadgets. It says CN North America NT 2012.30.
Below in light print is Lower 49 ststes
Sorry Steve, looks like my reply didn't go through. Here it is again. Under info it says CN North AMERICA NT 2012.30
Hi again. Sorry, I was off yesterday.
You only have the 49 states loaded (no Alaska ). There are no maps of Canada on your GPS which is why you can't navigate to it.
You would need to purchase Canadian maps from Garmin.
You can do that here: https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm?deviceType=automotive&activeTab=&rce=windows
Connect your Garmin and go to that page. Follow the instructions and see what maps are available.
I'll be here if you need more help.
My Garmin came with Canadian maps on it, because I have used it in Canada. That is the reason I purchased this particular model. Why should I have to purchase the maps when the unit came with them om it?
I understand your position completely. The unit should have updated your maps to include Canada.
At this point you are going to have to contact Garmin and complain. I can't do anything else unfortunately. With your serial number they will know what maps originally came with the GPS. I think they will be able to give you a code or download that will put the maps back.
The downsides is that their phone support can take 20-30 minutes but the call is free.
Call them at(NNN) NNN-NNNNand explain the situation.
Again, please understand that only Garwin's HQ can fix this for you.
