I have attempted recalibration of my Garmin Nuvi 205 twice and it lapses back to not responding to touch correctly. Should I try again or just pitch it and buy something else. I really need a GPS... soon...

Hello & Welcome,

Sorry I didn't see your question earlier.

Can you tell me the AGE of your unit?

Can you also tell me what exactly caused you (or the unit) to try to calibrate the screen?

Thanks

Customer replied322 days and 1 hours ago.

My GPS is 4 years old and lightly used with care. When I touched the screen, wrong letters came up and that is when I started trying to look for adjustments.

Hi Susan,

OK - can you tell me exactly what happens when you try to recalibrate the screen? Do you get the series of dots that you touch and then it says calibration complete?

Thanks

Customer replied322 days ago.

I did not ever get any dots when attempting that recalibration method the first time so then I was guided to the next plan to reorient it to the atmosphere outside. I think I just need to get a new one or buy and iphone.

Hi again,

OK - I'm not certain what the "plan to reorient" the unit is about, but I can give you the instructions to TRY and recalibrate the screen. If this is the "basic" Nuvi 205, you should be able to use the instructions below to cause the unit to go into the calibration screen.

================================

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 205 series:

  1. Start with the device turned off and disconnected from power
  2. Place your finger in the top left hand corner of the touch screen and apply (gentle) pressure. Continue to hold your finger on the screen until a "press dot" message appears (see below)
  3. Turn the nuvi on (continue to HOLD the screen)
  4. Hold pressure in left corner until the Press Dot message appears
  5. Once this message displays, remove your finger from the screen
  6. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
    • The dots will change location
    • A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
  7. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears

The touchscreen will now be calibrated. To recalibrate at any time, repeat the above steps.

=================================

Please give that a try and let me know your results.

But if you were "looking for a reason" to get a newer unit, then this may be the time. And a newer GPS will be a LOT less expensive than an iphone, and there are no monthly charges for a GPS.
