My Garmin auto GPS, nuvi model 760 has stopped working. Can it be repaired?
Already Tried: Two different auto plugs.
Thanks for the question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'm sorry to hear about your GPS.Are there any sights or sounds of life, at all? For example, do you see "Garmin" flash on the screen when you try to power it on?Best,Dan
No response of any kind.
Have you tried connecting the unit directly to your computer's USB port? If you haven't, please try that now and see if the unit powers on.
Yes. It powers up
And does it appear to function normally? You probably won't be able to acquire satellites, if the unit is inside.
No. It shows Garmin screen and unit to CPU symbol, but goes no further.
Ok, right... the 760 does that. No problem. And just so I'm totally clear... the unit does not power up at all when you use the auto adapter, right? And you have tried 2 different plugs...?
Thats right

The fact that it powers up when connected to your computer, indicates the unit itself is fine. Instead, you'll need to change the fuse in the auto adapter. It's actually pretty common for that fuse to fail. It's a 3A fast blow.I've attached a picture with directions, below.Dan
I see you rated me poorly. What else can I do for you?
Fuses have been checked on both auto cords. Both are intack
I wish you would've told me that, initially. Have you tried anything else?
no
How was the fuse checked, and what was the indication?
at oreillys auto
Have you used 2 different vehicles, or 2 different power cords?
yes
Yes to which? 2 vehicles, or 2 power cords?
both
We're missing something simple. The auto adapters send DC voltage to the GPS. The USB cable does exactly the same thing. The USB cable is powering the unit, so if the fuses and auto receptacles are good, the unit will power on similarly (but without the computer screen).I would still replace the fuse at this point, friend... regardless of what the fellow at O'Reilly said. It's a 3A fast blow.Dan
Thanks. I had already done all you ask. My first ? was are these type of units repairable.
No. The nuvi 760 is no longer supported by Garmin's repair facility. The unit would need to be replaced.Dan
