Customer Question

I have the Garmin 1450LMT and it just stopped working. It is stuck on the Garmin Logo. I have tried rebooting and nothing.

Already Tried:
I have held down the power button for 10-30 seconds.. but the logo just disappears and reappears. I have tried plugging it into the computer to update it but that didn't help - the computer can't even find it

Kellie,

My answer is below. Beneath my answer, you'll see five rating options. Please only rate me when I have addressed all your concerns and you are 100% satisfied with the service I have provided. If you feel the need to click either of the bottom two, please STOP because this will result in a negative mark on my permanent feedback record and will also prevent me from earning compensation for my time here. If you are dissatisfied in any way, please reply to me via the REPLY TO EXPERT or CONTINUE CONVERSATION link. I will be happy to continue further and do everything I can to provide you with the service you seek. When you are ready to rate me, please click the middle rating option OR BETTER to ensure I get credit.

Ok, we'll need to do a master reset. Be aware, though, the master reset will erase all your favorite places. If you want to back them up first, click here.

Once you're ready to reset your device, follow these steps:

1. Start with your device turned off and disconnected from power.

2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with your finger or the eraser end of a pencil.

3. With the corner being held, press and release the power button. Don't let go of the corner.

4. When the device powers on, you should see a message asking if you want to erase all user data. Now you can let go of the corner... then touch "yes."

Place your device outside with its back side facing the sky. Leave it alone for 20 minutes so it can reacquire satellites.

Let me know how it goes!

that didn't work. It still is stuck with just the Garmin Logo

Kellie,

Did you see the screens I mentioned? Did the unit ask if you want to erase all user data?

Customer replied 326 days and 7 hours ago.

No it never asked me. It went from black to the logo and that is it. It didn't even show the writing like it was trying to load the maps

Kellie,

Be sure you're touching the far lower, right corner. If you're too close to the middle of the screen, the unit won't detect your touch appropriately and won't allow the reset to happen. Please try again.

If it still doesn't let you do this, please try the procedure again but this time, please use the TOP LEFT corner. That should bring you to a calibration screen, which is indicated by a small dot. Press the dot, briefly. The dot should move. Continue touching the dots as they appear, until the unit turns on.

Let me know how it goes.

neither of those options worked. I forgot to mention when I turned it on yesterday to use it underneath the garmin logo it had a green line that was almost an inch long. after I powered down and rebooted it got stuck on the logo. So I turned off and used my iphone instead. After 4 hours I powered it on again and it actually got past the logo screen but the touch screen wasn't working. So I powered down and powered up and it has been stuck ever since on just the garmin logo

Kellie,

I will need to know when you purchased the unit. Month and year, please.

Excellent! The unit should still be covered until the original 12-month warranty. At this point, I don't recommend you perform any further testing. Instead, I suggest you contact Garmin's warranty support line at 1-800-800-1020 to have the unit repaired at no cost.

When you call that number, they'll need the unit's serial number. Then, they'll give you a return merchandise authorization (RMA) number. Once you have received the RMA number, you also will be told what dock number to include in the shipping address. Ship the unit (insured) to the following address and include the assigned dock number:

Garmin International
1200 E. 151st Street
RMA Number: (insert your RMA number here)
Dock Door (insert the dock number here)
Olathe, KS 66062 USA

And that's all you need to do. You'll have a brand new unit, in no time!

Best,
Dan

Kellie,

Thank you for clarifying. In that case, the unit can still be repaired by Garmin. The repair fee for the 1450 series ranges from $110-$140 depending on the specific model. The procedures are the same as I posted earlier, but Garmin will contact you directly to request payment, as the unit is no longer covered under the original 12-month warranty.

If you have further questions, please click "Reply to expert" or "Continue the conversation". If you have no further questions, please click the middle smiley face or better to ensure I get credit for assisting you. You aren't rating the site or how much you like my answer... you're rating the service I have provided you.

Thanks,
Dan
