I have a Garmin Nuvi that has lost its voice. I did and update

I have a Garmin Nuvi that has lost its voice. I did and update to the mapes, now it only sows the mape for navigation without the voice. I've checked and it isn't on mute. How do I get the voice back?

Hi again & thanks for that information.

What I would like you to do is go to the Voice Selection screen and pick a different voice (that you can understand) from the list, and then TEST to see if you can hear the voice. You may need to program in a destination to get the unit to speak, but we are just testing here.

If you can hear that different voice, then come back to the voice selection screen and see if you can select the original voice that you had programmed in - and then test again to see if you can hear the original voice. If not, we may need to reload the voice files.

Here are the instructions for getting to the voice selection screen.

For the nuvi 2505 series devices

  1. 1) From the main menu screen touch Settings
  2. 2) Scroll down
  3. 3) Touch Language & Keyboard
  4. 4) Touch Voice Language
  5. 5) Select the correct voice from the list
  6. 6) Touch Save

The unit should now speak in the voice you have selected.

OK - its time to do a Master Reset. If you have any saved "favorites" you will want to do the back up procedure in the instructions FIRST, so that you can get your favorites back after the reset.

To perform a master reset on a nuvi 2505 series device:

 

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites you can find instructions to do so here.

  1. 1) Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power
  2. 2) Press and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
  3. 3) Power the nuvi on
  4. 4) Remove your finger when a message appears that says "Erase all user data?"
  5. 5) Touch Yes

The device will now be reset. Follow the on-screen prompts then place the device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. This can take up to 15 minutes.

Tried the rest. Did yes - United States - ok - American English - ok - warning screen - agree - went to main screen. Where To? address - put in an address hit GO - No voice.

Still no sound. Got it in November. I don't use it very much. I went to use it Sunday & there was no voice prompt. Volume is set at 70%.

OK - the fact that you have no sound at all concerns me. This could be a hardware failure, such as the speaker not working..

But I have one other thing that we try before we decide if the unit needs to be sent in to be repaired (under warranty). That is to run a unit software update. This is done with a program called "WebUpdater". If you run the program and its says that your software is already up to date, there is an option to "Reinstall the same version". That is what should be selected - if needed.

Here are the instructions, and you may already have WebUpdater installed and just need to run it.

The basic steps are to contact support to get an RMA (Return Material Authorization) number and a "door/dock number", and then pack & ship. Here is the detailed contact information.

1) Contact Garmin Technical Support to receive an RMA number.

Call or e-mail a Garmin Technical Support Specialist to describe the problem and request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. You will need to provide the unit's serial number (if applicable), your return shipping address and a daytime phone number.

2) Ship the unit, along with the RMA number, to Garmin.

Once you have received the RMA number, you will also be told what dock number to include in the shipping address. Ship the unit (insured) to the following address and include the assigned dock number:

Dock Door (insert dock number here)
Olathe, KS 66062 USA
