My Magellan roadmate 5045 LM is malfunctioning. When I turn

Resolved Question:

My Magellan roadmate 5045 LM is malfunctioning. When I turn it on, it indicates that we are at an address 20 miles away from where we really are. It is an address I had stopped at earlier in the day. Is there something I can do to get it to work properly?

protek480 :

Just delete 'recently found' and then press 'where am I'

protek480 :

Your manual:

Customer:

I'm not clear what you mean "delete recently found." Delete it from where?

protek480 :

Do you see 'recently found' addresses?

protek480 :

These are in a folder. Just try and press "where am I'

Customer:

the on screen menu offers these choice: address, points of interest, previous, address book, intersection, city center. Those are the only choices

Customer:

"Where am I" is not one of the options

protek480 :

give me a minute..

Customer:

ok

Customer:

i have previous destinations. should I delete all of the addresses on it?

protek480 :

Yes, then look at page 25

Customer:

of the manual. give me a moment. It's not here by my desk

protek480 :

I gave you a link for it above

Customer:

I have the user handbook; is that the same thing?

protek480 :

yes, probably

Customer:

it's fewer than 25 pages. it's not the same

protek480 :

no, it's 42

Customer:

is there a way to reboot this. I've already turned it on and off several times. I used to have a GPS device that, if you stuck a pen in an opening, reset all the readings.

protek480 :

yes, that's a possibility but you loose your POI's and info you have saved.

Customer:

hello?

protek480 :

hey...

Customer:

hey

protek480 :

What's up?

Customer:

still trying to resolve the gps issue. normally when I hit "menu" I get plenty of choices. but now it's only the six i previously mentioned. now is there a way to reboot this, other than cutting off and restoring the power?

protek480 :

I would shut it down and reboot

Customer:

there is usually a feature, show map. now it is missing

protek480 :

Hmmm..

protek480 :

See what you get when it comes back on...

Customer:

just a map showing a place where i am currently not. about 15-20 miles away; it's as though it's somehow imprinted an earlier location.

Customer:

i've been trying to locate a reset button. is there one on this machine?

protek480 :

Let me check...

protek480 :

Page 42

protek480 :

1. Insert a micro SD card in your Magellan RoadMate receiver.
2. From the Main Menu screen, tap the Settings icon.
3. Tap Backup and Restore.
• Tap Backup My Data to save your user data and settings on the inserted micro SD card.
• Tap Restore Saved Data to overwrite your user data and setting with a previous backup available on the
inserted micro SD card.
• Tap Restore All Default Settings to reset all settings to their factory defaults.

protek480 :

Try that...

Customer:

wait, did a micro SD card come with this device?

protek480 :

Look and see if it has one, normally they do not

protek480 :

It's optional

protek480 :

Do you have a SD card you can put in it?

Customer:

no, i guess we're at a dead end then

protek480 :

Pick up a SD card, cheap now days

protek480 :

Do a restore and it will all come back.

Customer:

can i print out this dialogue box?

protek480 :

Yes

Customer:

oh, i guess i could highlight and post it elsewhere. give me a sec

protek480 :

Just highlight all the text and then 'copy'

protek480 :

then paste to word

Customer:

ok, I guess I'll hit accept and let you get on with the next client. have a good night
