Leave the engine off, and the parking brake set, look under the truck an see if the shift lever will move by hand.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I can move it
Expert:  KALAMYKID replied 7 months ago.

All you are looking for is if the cable is still connected, and if the shift leaver i=on the side of the trans will move back to park.

Is the cable still attached? Did the cable break?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It does move by hand

Is the cable still attached to the shift lever?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
the cable is attached to the shift lever, it shifts down at the console, just doesn't pull the gears back up to park
Expert:  KALAMYKID replied 7 months ago.

Pull the cable off of the shift leaver and see if the cable is broken. If the shifter is in park, the cable should not move, so either the cable is broken, or the shifter itself has come apart.

Ok, let me get it back up so I can get under it, can I get back with you later
