Customer Question

i have a 1983 GMC k 2500 and the low beams will not light up unless you have the high beams on
JA: Have you checked the bulbs? Have you checked the fuses?
Customer: yes bulbs is there separate fuses for low beam headlights on that truck
JA: What is the model of your '83 GMC?
Customer: k 2500
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: yes I have installed a new high beam that was out and checked some wires
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: yes i have replaced the switch that switches from low beam to high beam and like i say when switched to high beam the low beams light same as high beam but switch back to low beam no lights at all

is this the type of headlight configuration your truck has ?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
except the high beam i believe is on top low on bottom , maybe i can explain better the bulb on top has 3 prongs and the bulbs on the bottom have 2 prongs , hope that helpsSherman
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
that is the configuration yes

on the left side 3 prong headlight you should have power on the tan colored wire when the headlights are on and switched to low beam . if not the first thing to do is to check for low beam coming out of the dimmer switch . does your truck have a floor mounted dimmer or column nounted dimmer ?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
floor mounted and i replaced it with a new one and it still does the same thing exactly
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
i will check for the power on the tan wire as you say

the floor mount dimmer switches are known for getting corroded in the connector due to moisture on the floor mat / carpet . check the connections there . we were continuously replacing dimmer switch plugs .
