Customer Question

2004 gmc turbo diesel, in a 16 passenger bus. Has had numerous replacement parts, lift pump, fuel water filter and, oil pressure sensor switch to name a few. was repaired by a diesel mechanic. Was driven 50 miles. Has just under 1/2 half tank of gas. Set for 2 weeks. Now will start and run for about 30 sec then die. Will restart sometimes right away, other times has to sit. Lift pump does run when ignition is turned on. Running out of ideas, Iam not a diesel mechanic but, have some car experience.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

The problem may be fuel related or electrical. If the transfer pump has been replaced then odds are fuel supply is ok, but there could be a tank or line issue causing starvation.

The first step in diagnosing the problem is to see if any fault codes are setting. Most electrical issues will set a code, and it may also set a code for low rail pressure if fuel supply is dropping off. Have you checked for codes?
