My 07 duramax will not even try to start..it's the 07

Customer Question

My 07 duramax will not even try to start..it's the 07 classic....I put brand new batteries, just put a new starter on the truck, still won't start...I have full Power every where, I have 13 volts at the starter, and I have checked every fuse for continuity on the truck...I also swapped out the ignition relay with the parking lamp relay...still nothing...

Hi there, I am Cam. Did you happen to boost the vehicle or put a charger on it recently? Do you have the Vin handy?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It has brand new batteries...just installed...the Vin is 1GTHK23D57F158462
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
We did try jumping it because we thought it was dead at first..
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Ok did you happen to jump on the drivers side battery? If so did you happen to hit the aluminum find on the fan shroud?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Jumped it from the auxiliary posts. ..and no we didn't hit anything
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

OK, taking a small wire from those pins on that module and grounding that out.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Which module?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I got on a diesel forum...someone said if you can move the shifter with the key in the on postion, without foot on brake, then the ignition swith is bad...and that is the case...no brake needed...also no indicator lights up underneath Park, Reverse, Drive...etc....
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

Ignition switches are common, tell me this, is the check engine light on when you turn the key on?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yeah but it's been on for awhile now...some turbo sensor...can't afford to fix it quite yet
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

ITs less about what code, but that its on and it indicates the ECM is alive. Does it show the gear then?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Well that's good new..lol...no the gear indicators do not light up..
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

Is the IGN 0 fuse getting power with the key on? This is in the left dash fuse block.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ill have to check...I know the fuse is good. ..
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it has power
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
As well as IGN 3
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

Ok, Then we need to see if we can see any transmission codes with the scanner.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't have a scanner...the ignition switch did not fix it...I'm about to lose my mind
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

OK, that makes it difficult. I am thinking transmission module is faulty but I am not willing to advise you to replace it until we have any more codes.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I grounded the fins to negative on the battery. ..still wouldn't try to crank
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have a guy coming in about a half an hour with a scanner
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

OK, let me know what codes it sets.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It was the communication with the TCM...had a buddy that has the same truck...put his TCM on mine, started right up...but I'm confused why grounding it out didnt make it crank over...
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Don't worry about he grounding out part. That only applies if the ground circuit internally is shorter out. Some times it works, some times it does not.
So you need a tcm programmed then a fast learn to the transmission.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I need a tcm...I have a guy that can tune it
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Either way, programmed or not...simple install...
Expert:  Gm Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
