2003 GMC Envoy XL, started a couple weeks ago. Once I get up to about 35-40 MPH I am hearing a humming noise coming from underneath vehicle and I can feel it in the steering wheel. After about 2 weeks the humming noise has become louder and now starting to feel it at about 25 MPH. In the last day I have now started to hear a rattling noise coming from underneath also. The rattling seems to start after the vehicle has slowed down or stopped and starts going again. Within the last month I had all new tires installed and balanced. Any suggestions?
if you turn hard to the right and then the left will one way be louder and the other way be quieter when its making this noise ?
I haven't noticed any difference when turning the vehicle. The humming noise is constant while the car is in motion and the rattling only happens after the vehicle was either stopped or slowed down and when I accelerate again. The rattling noise only happens for a few seconds and then stops but sometimes it will happen 2 or 3 times after I accelerate before it stops.
ok more than likey you have a bad front hub/bearing assembly causing this problem.it should be run up in the air to confirm this.the only outside chance of something else would be a possible U-Joint either in the front or the rear driveshaft that could cause this noise other than the hub/bearing assembly.if you can jack up the front tires and grab the tire 12:00 one hand and 6:00 other hand see if you have any up and down play if you do the one that has the play is bad and more than likey causing the noise
