need to change-out my brother-in-laws fuel pump on an'03 longbed (6') pickup. Is it close enough to identical with a '99 S-10 that I can do it the same way I did mine? It's ugly, but I lifted up the bed liner and cut a section out of the bed exposing the pump area.

I see no problems with doing it that way. Depending on if the bolts are rusty it usually isnt too much trouble to remove the bolts to the bed and lift the whole bed off the truck. This gives you all the room you need to get to the pump. All the lights should have a connector connecting them to the truck harness. The bed isnt as big as a full size pickup so a couple of guys can get the bed off without an issue. If you do decide to cut a hole in the bed I would recommend sealing up the removed section so water doesnt run on top of the pump and create a corrosion issue.
they will be almost an identical truck.
