Hi, welcome to Just Answer. I’m Ron and I’ll be helping you
Before we get started though, Please understand that I don't know
your skill level or tools you have to assist us. Also understand that
I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle either, so patience is
appreciated. JA is a great Q/A site, but it does NOT replace a
repair shop.
My goal is to make you happy and get a great rating in return for
my time. Sometimes I have to give you bad news that I know you
didn’t want to hear, so please don’t shoot the messenger.

The spring end goes in the block.

Thanks, Ron

then I did it right, but I started it and after 5 min or so it starts to overheat, the fan is turning, not sound is coming from the water pump or fluid coming out, the reservoir is full ??
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
where do I go from here ? is it the water pump and how will I know?
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 2 months ago.

Okay, well I answered your question about T-stat positioning.

The water pump can have deteriorated fins and NOT pumping the water. The radiator can be partially plugged.

Thanks again and please remember to rate me 5 stars and keep this link in case you need me again later on.

how can I tell if the radiator is plugged
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 2 months ago.

If the pump is good water should flow quickly through the radiator fins.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
when I took the thermostat off to replace very little fluid came out?
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
the reservoir was empty, then after I put the new thermostat on I filled it up I started the engine and the fluid stayed in the reservoir(or plastic tank)
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 2 months ago.

Flush the complete cooling system then, block and radiator with a flush machine. It's plugged. Hopefully you never added any stop leak to the cooling system at any time because that will ruin the system while it's stopping the leak.

Thanks again.
