I have a 2006 2500 and the power steering and brakes will go

Customer Question

I have a 2006 2500 and the power steering and brakes will go out. After it sits for a day or two it woks again. Seemingly everything has been replaced and it happens again. I have my crew towing a yard wast trailer with this truck and it is unsafe. What do recommend?

ok, do you have pressure gauges to monitor the pressure???

Roy

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
No I don't have power steering gauges.
But the problem is intermittent. May take weeks to act up again.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
After it sits for a day it does not act up for a while.
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 7 months ago.

I see no tsb or re call on this. the only thing you can do is wait until it happens again and get a set of gauges to see if it is a pressure loss

What about a sticky valve in the powersteering pump?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
where would i put the gauges?
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 7 months ago.

I was thinking that but you have changed the fluid at least 2 times, that should not be the issue

the other issue may be the steering box. there may be dirt in there

Roy

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
we have changed the steering box. That was the first thing because it was dumping fluid.
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 7 months ago.

it sounds like you have dirt somewhere in the system.

I would try flushing the system again. use about 3 quarts for power steering fluid.

What would the pressure gauges tell me ? Where would i put them?
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 7 months ago.

on the output of the pump. pressure hose. that will tell you if the pump is working correctly
