GM Acadia: I took my wifes 2008 GMC Acadia in rear

Customer Question

I took my wifes 2008 GMC Acadia in for the rear liftgate recall
because it was not working,I had put new gas shocks on 3 months
before the recall. The dealer said they reprogramed the controler
but that did not work. They said it needed a new Control Module
so I said OK. That Did Not Work, the Tech said it Needed a New
Motor on the Actuator Assembly,That did not work . I did not
want to spend any more money on them not nowing what the
real problem is. I picked the car up and ordered a complete
liftgate actuator assembly myself and installed it. Still wont Work
When you try to open it the lock unlocks actuator slightly even
moves the liftgate ,makes the motion like its going to work but
reverses direction and stops . With all these new parts its still
the same as before I took it to the Dealer
Any Ideas

Good morning,Has anyone replaced or looked at the latch yet?I had the exact same problem on a 2008 Acadia last year. If you have a scan tool you can look at the outputs from the latch and see if the pawl, sector, and latch are reading correctly. It's not repairable by the way, you have to replace it. I tried to pull the one I had apart and see if I could clean the contacts or something and it exploded into a hundred pieces.

I would bet that's where the problem is.When you press the open button does it open about 6 inches and then make the chime noise 3 times and then fall back down slowly? And if you open it manually and then press the button to close it does it do the same? Close about 12 inches and then chime and go up and down a little bit and then stop?
