Have you tried 30 minute key relearn procedure?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
it isn't the original key- its a spare - can you do that with that key? I haven't used the original key for 150k or so

i don't have the original key- do I need that? what is the cause of this error message?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
thanks- I am leaving now

You don't need the original key. Try the procedure listed below.

1. Insert a master key (black head) into the ignition switch.

2. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and stay on.

3. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.

4. Turn key to the “OFF” position for 5 seconds.

5. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and stay on.

6. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.

7. Turn key to the “OFF” position for 5 seconds.

8. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and stay on.

9. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.

10. Turn key to the “OFF” position. The key transponder information will be learned on the next start cycle.

11. Start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts and runs normally, the relearn is complete.

Good Morning- I am back to the vehicle and the message on the display is "Unknown Driver". This message stays on for a couple of seconds and then switches to another display- it does not say anything specific about "security". Will the procedure you outlined above work with the "unknown driver" message? if this does not work should I disconnect and reconnect the battery?
Expert:  Dave Nova replied 11 months ago.

Do the procedure, just wait the full 10 minutes regardless of the lights.
