98 Cavalier automatic Starts at times, cranks and if it

Customer Question

98 Cavalier automatic
Starts at times, cranks and if it doesn't start it like hits hard, like a thud. When it starts it runs rough and shakes. Smells like raw fuel out of the exhaust. No engine light.

Probably the easiest, most obvious thing to look at is whether there is fuel in the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. Pull the vacuum line off, if there is fuel present, you need a new regulator.

By your description, it sounds like it's getting way too much fuel, and the regulator would be a common cause for that.
