06 silverado 1500 Z71-is it normal to have a rear end clunk. Also, I had the truck in the air and when in drive, the left rear tire spins and the right does not, but in reverse, the right rear tire spins and as the speed increases, I have a violent clunk and then the left tire spins. Normal?
Hello, I'm Cam. At anytime during our discussion you need more information or clarification, please reply. The clunk in the air is the locker engaging and it will damage it do to that in the air. The clunk when driving, can you describe it better?
I notice the rear end clunk sometimes when the truck downshifts at slower speeds, also, I hear it sometimes when shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. I didn't think much of the clunk when shifting from d to r or r to d but to have the rear end clunk when the truck downshifts while slowing down, I didn't like that. Is that a normal characteristic of the "locker" in the rear end or does it sound like something else?
the clunk in the air is the normal locker clunk. the clunk shifting while driving is a normal clunk due to the nature of the 4L60E and the shift timing into and out of 2nd gear. the clunk in park to drive and reverse is also considered normal due to the buuild up of clearece in the parts sue to normal gear lash, and then add to that aluminum parts that amplify the sound. I would however take the drive shaft off and check u-joint for being loose which would make them worse.
