Your fuel filter should be mounted to the frame rail on the driver side of the vehicle, look for it near where the rear doors are. HERE are the workshop instructions to replace the filter. The year 88 was a "model split" year, two engines were available in this year, you most likely have the engine that would place the fuel filter on the driver frame rail. IF by chance you have the less likely engine in your vehicle, the fuel filter is on the passenger side frame rail, and close to the front of the vehicle. Both motors were 3.8L so it's usually hard to tell which motor you have, I would assume you have the engine i linked you the information for and look on the driver frame rail, under the rear door, if you do not see it there, follow the fuel lines, if the fuel lines are on the passenger side of the vehicle, look for the filter under the front right door area instead. Sorry for the confusing post, this is a common issue with "split year" vehicle changes.
