This question is for Jesse Handel. To learn about preserving body odors on ladies costume accessories, who are the experts in the Science field I should contact? This may involve different areas of science. I contacted a Conservator and she said I'm not sure I can provide a definitive solution, as we are usually concerned with removing odors, not preserving them. Firstly, odor is caused by volatile chemicals, and therefore by definition will diminish over time as the chemicals evaporate. It's a little outside my range of expertise, but I suspect that eventually, whatever you do, the odor would disappear. I am not familiar with the chemical composition of human sweat, so I cannot say whether those off gassed chemicals will cause further deterioration of the shoe materials. It is possible. The ladies costume accessories are ladies used shoes and boots and it is the foot scent from the objects I wish to preserve.
From the experts I will need to learn packing and storage procedures to help preserve the original odor of the ladies used footwear for as long as possible.
I was told by a female librarian chemistry is the branch of science that deals with fragrance so chemistry may come into play.
Thank you! Only Jesse to answer please!
If Jesse Handel is not available to answer, then I will only choose A. Schuyler to answer as she has a science background.
Please!, no other expert to answer other than one of these two experts.
