It sounds as if they have determined the ABS module has failed. The ABS module reads the wheel speed signals and converts the signal to vehicle speed. If the module isn't communicating then the ABS light will be on, if the module isn't functioning then that would explain the speedometer not working.
If the ABS module is not awake and communicating with a scan tool it could be an internal failure of the module or a loss of power or ground to it. The powers and grounds would need to be tested and if ok then the module could be condemned.
you didnt answer if the bit i am a bit dumb founded with it...... my question is, is there something on the wheel that can be broken when changing the break pad to stop the sensors from talking to the pc? or is it quite the coincidence that this happened at the same time as the service?
i have since returned to the mechanic who did the break pads and he tells me that he hadnt got all the messages from phone calls i have made to report the fault lights being on still and me not being game to drive the car...... he said it would cost me thousands of dollars to fix it!
i have got onto another mechanic who is telling me the old mechanic stuffed up the abs sensors or something, which caused the fault codes.. i am lost as to what i can do here.....
and i stilll cant drive my car without worry...
i am confused and i do not know what to do..... i cannot afford to have a mechanic and then a second mechanic to monitor the first mechanics work..... and then ask you!
It's possible that wheel speed sensors were damaged but that wouldn't cause a problem with the ABS module itself. If the module isn't communicating then it has either failed or has lost a power or ground feed as I described in my first post.
