Dear dawnell,

This is classified information which is not available to the public. Anyone divulging the locations of AWACS would be subject to investigation, and arrest.

However, I can say generally, that you will find AWACS with military units who watch the weather, and aviation units in support of surveillance and combat operations. This would include Tactical and Strategic Airlift command locations.

The following major locations are public knowledge:

  • Hanscom AFB,
  • Tinker AFB, Okla., and
  • Warner Robbins-Air Logistics Center, Ga.,

There are also several overseas "customers" who have leased or purchased AWACS.

Best Regards

Ed Johnson, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, Retired.

Dear Dawn,

What more can I tell you? What were you looking for.

You asked which air force basis had AWACS.

The deployment of AWACS is classified. In reality, they move around based on mission, and have no real home base. It would be against the law for anyone to give the location of an AWACS if they had knowledge of deployable AWACS.

The three bases listed are the only ones which can be considered permanet home bases for AWACS.

The overseas locations are kept secret as well. The only knowledge available to the general public would be knowledge that might have been leaked out accidentally through the news.

Surely you do not want any of us to violate anti-espionage and security regulations to divulge the tactical deployment of AWACS.

I can divulge a bit more GENERAL information:

There is an AWACS co-located at each Nato Command AND:

  • One is used in Afghanastan and IRAQ
  • One is located in SHAPE
  • Gilenkirchen, GE
  • RAF, Waddington, UK
  • Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Norway.
  • One in Alaska and Hawaii (weather and military)
  • One in Florida and California (Weather)

More specific than that, i cannot be. In fact I would be wondering about your motive for knowing more specific information.

Reply to Ed Johnson's Post: ED,

Well Ed, it seems like you are a little defensive, my motives are innocent... My freaking boyfriend is with an AWACS unit and I was wondering what possible locations we would be moving to the next time he got transferred. He is wanting to get married and I was just curious to see what options were out there for my career and whatnot. I am offended by your defensiveness and will NEVER use this website again!
