I will be traveling next and week and am curious about how medical care works overseas. How do they handle it in each of these places:

Indonesia
Australia
Italy
France
United States

If you need urgent medical care and you can't pay for the entire thing at one time, what do you do?

Also, what do you do if you lose your passport? We literally need the literal steps or what to do from the moment that you do. Thank you!
Hello, thank you for using this service. I wish to introduce myself. I am Michael, a Research Librarian with 20+ years of experience.

Sounds like you will be a world traveler by the time you get home!

Before listing information on healthcare on these various countries, let me give you company information listings on travel health insurance you can purchase before your trip. The US State Department has a complete list to use to compare pricing:

Researching tonight information on each company with links that offer clear details. Each country has it's own policies for payment so purchasing insurance would be the way to go.

As for your question on possible loosing your passport (I hope not), research first when you are in each country where your local embassy is located as they would be helpful in this matter. In fact, registering in each country you visit with your embassy can be essential if a problem does come up.

Thank you so much for your answers, they are great!

I have more questions however.

I am wondering the requirements for entering each of these countries:

-Indonesia, Australia, France, Italy

For example, do I need a health card, travelers insurance, proof of income etc

Thank you!

Very glad that the information I provided was helpful in planning your worldwide trip.

A reccommendation I can first offer before you leave is to look at the travel series from Lonely Planet. Their travel books and website are valuable pieces of information for anybody traveling. The books for each of the countries you are visiting can be found at your local library as well as any bookstore.

Went ahead tonight and researched the official travel sites for each country for you to review to see what is required for short and long term visits.
