Hello, Thank you for using this service. I wish to introduce myself. I am a Research Librarian with 20+ years of experience.

Having a PO box would be a safe way for you to receive packages that can offer you the flexibility of ordering items online and have it delivered to you. You would need to visit the post office and fill out USPS Form 1093. Bring ID along as well. At the post office you can pick out the PO box size as well as location.

Another option would be to use the various UPS Stores that offer package delivery:

No most mailorder wont deliver to po boxes. you will have to leave a note on your mailbox to tell mailman to bring package up to. and your floor number. leave it taped to your mailboxes. saying in big letter, please if any packages dont fit in mailbox please bring up to apartment ________________.And sign your full name. then on your front door in house leave a piece of paper iin front of door taped. all packages , if there is no one home please leave the packages at the door and sign your full name under it. if package requires signature leave by door if you can or leave delivery ticket or you can also accept this letter as my signature, thank you. sign your name on the paper. If it gets taken by any deliveries needing signature you will have to replace that letter of course. keep it taped to your door at all times, and as stated one on mailbox. works like a charm.

Thanks Karel for the answer. I will give that a try : )

Michael, I like the idea of the pobox, but it has the problem that so many websites wont ship to poboxes. The ups alternative you pointed to me is for redirecting an ongoing shipment to a ups location, right? It is not a pobox type of thing?

thanks

You would have to check with the online carrier that you order from but from the UPS site, it does say you can have your packages directed to their store:

Yes, if you are a current mailbox holder, The UPS Store® will receive and hold your packages for pick-up. Check with your local store to see if additional charges or storage fees apply.

UPS My Choice® Members can reroute their packages to a The UPS Store location using the Deliver to A UPS Retail Location option for a small, one-time fee.
