Hi. Id like to be an enterpreneur. I was thinking about courses I could take that would help me build the skills for this.: )

Hello, Thank you for using this service. I wish to introduce myself. I am a Research Librarian with 20+ years of experience.

Being an entrepreneur is someone who brings to business new technologies, ideas, as well as productivity and services to grow the business.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics offers this detailed report on this professional field:
http://www.bls.gov/bdm/entrepreneurship/entrepreneurship.htm

Some steps in order to start courses are below:

1. Many colleges and universities are now offering free courses online. Stanford for example is offering many of it's courses for free: http://epicenter.stanford.edu/resource/free-online-entrepreneurship-courses

MIT has started this trend and offers courses online for free: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/entrepreneurship/

2. Fox Business News just a few weeks ago ran a detailed story on what students like yourself should look for in terms of courses to take: http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2013/02/06/entrepreneurship-courses-what-students-can-expect/

3. I would also recommend reading from the professional publication in this field: http://www.entrepreneur.com/

I will be checking the websites tomorrow. what about magazines on that subject? do you know any particular ones you would recommend? or foruns/ blogs/ websites with the new trends, infos?

thanks

As for magazines, start by looking at the professional publication:
http://www.entrepreneur.com/

They also have a good blog:
http://www.entrepreneur.com/blog/index.html

Trends for 2013:
http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/224977

Also any magazines articles from the top business publications such as Business Week, Forbes, Fortune as well as Smart Money.

Venture Beat is also very interesting to follow:
http://venturebeat.com/2013/01/22/dell-predictions/

I would also recommend joining any community groups within Linkedin. Also follow any blogs from the major universities and colleges that offer classes on this subject as I am sure some of the faculty may write some interesting things.

Hi Alex welcome to your first enterpreuneurial "bite".

Don't forget to leave a rating when you are finished, as this is required for credit on my end.

First book you need to read is called the E-Myth revisited - you can find this on amazon as well as PDF and audio book. The author last name isXXXXX is an AMAZING book, helped me to transform my business. This book will change your life as a small business owner and enterpreuneur. The audio book is great for the car.

My daily trade is in a niche automotive market, my formal education in public health and human physiology, strength and conditioning. I took what was a well loved hobby into my main source of income by first reading the market and realizing the need for it.

I weighed out my options of time, energy and effort, I wrote up a business plan and eventually GRADUALLY worked my way into making this my full time job. I have learned and become well versed in my own marketing, my skill trade improvement, even my website SEO simply from being patient(key here) and taking the time to learn and really assimilate what was needed. I also spent a lot of time working on my approach with customers along with my marketing(both direct and passive) to them and any potential customers. I have a tremendous appreciation for them and they know this. This is why I am successful.

First thing is you are going to have to have a reasonable sense for business. Now with this it can be developed over time, as it sometimes is a learned quality. Some are born with it, others have to hone it.

It is very important to realize that having a large, blooming entrepreneurial spirit does not always equate to success. That comes from have a good managerial side, the appropriate marketing tools and combining them all equally while knowing enough about your business venture to actually know when to play certain cards.

If you considering working in given field, you need to research that field. If it is in sales of a given item or idea, pricing research is in order. You have do your own research or get in touch with someone who knows your specific market

A majority of forums are market specific in regard to business. For example, real estate, t shirt printing etc.. That said here is the mother of all the forums on the internet - it tells you traffic, subject and a million other stats http://www.big-boards.com/ - the best internet marketing forum though is the warrior forum.

I would say start brain storming immediately and carry a notepad with you. When you think of an idea or name or ANYTHING - write it down. You can cross it off later or go back to it but once you forget it you may not remember it again. Starting writing down all your ideas if nothing else once you are an established enterpreuneur the book can be a memoir, however if you are thinking of new idea, a bunch will already be there.

I have done this for years, and it benefits me every single day. Even in smaller projects outside of my main work, and formal training.
