I am supposed to be traveling to Cairo for 2 days from July 5th - 7th to visit a friend of mine who is studying at the American University in Cairo. With the tension surrounding their recent elections, is it still safe to travel there?

Hello. I would personally not go in a country where the army is considered the enemy by many. It was not so long ago that foreign women reporters got raped one after the other. If you have to go, be sure to always be in company of locals and follow their advice to the letter.

Thing can change really fast and by July it's not impossible that the country be in total civil war.
