If I post a link to a song will you be able to tell me what scale is used? And I would like to know which music scales ate more for serious moods. For example, a boss in a video game.

Are you talking about the song's key rather than an actual scale?

I thought songs were played in a certain scale (which tells you which keys to play)

Songs are in a particular key, a scale is just the notes that are in the particular key. The notes would change depending on if it were a major or minor key.
