Horticulture Question: What is the best soil mix for Aloe

This answer was rated:

Horticulture Question: What is the best soil mix for Aloe Vera / Barbadensis Miller
Hello. I would use the same thing as with cactus, about half sand half potting mix. Using a porous clay pot with some gravel at the bottom so that it dry and drain faster.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Which type of sand, fine grain or course?
Coarse if possible, it will prevent compaction of the organic matter and promote good draining. As you need to water only when the top soil will be dry, sand too fine will cause the water to hydro-statically float on the soil instead of penetrating it.

Some plant store sell pre-made cactus soil package, you can use that also,
