We will be exhibitors in the Philadelphia Flower Show in March of 2013.The overall theme is London and all of England. My question is: what kinds of perennials and annuals are used in flower pots and window boxes in London in the spring? Thanks. Betsy
Already Tried: reference books. it's difficult to get information specifically about London
Hello,
Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. It's difficult to imagine Spring anywhere in England (including London) without bluebells, daffodils, hyacinths, crocus, rhodedendron, tulips, pansies, sweet peas, camillia, lilacs, and early petunias.
Window boxes usually feature draping plants like miniature ivies (particularly the colored varieties), ferns, as well as very small evergreens for contrast.
If it would bloom in the north of the US in March, you would find it in London as well.
I would add the additional suggestion that you look at the Royal Horticultural Society and the Chelsea Flower Show (scheduled this year May 22-26) for some excellent information. My wife and I attended Chelsea several years ago, and I would recommend this to anyone as one of the most spectacular shows. Please accept the other experts answer.
