FISHING REEL CLEANING QUESTION

I have an open face fishing reel that I really love and would like to keep. It is sticking on me and since it is over 5 years old, I think it needs a cleaning. Once I take off the line, I am wondering how to clean it - Do I open up the entire reel? Do I use normal cleaning solution? Is there lubricating oil I need to apply? To what parts?
