If you have a parent that has died and they had outstanding

Resolved Question:

If you have a parent that has died and they had outstanding debt, are you responsible for that debt? If you are an authorized signer/user on credit cards, are you responsible for that debt?

Hello,

My sincere condolences.

Generally speaking, a child will not be liable for his deceased parent's debt unless he cosigned the debt. However, an authorized user/signer is typically liable or responsible for the debt

Again, my sympathies.

What if you are a tenant in common and the house of a deceased parent passes on to you, do you have to accept that obligation or mortgate through the bank or can you let it just go to the estate to settle all debts?

You can allow the property to pass to the estate to settle the debt
