How does the summer heat and sun radiance in Phoenix Arizona

Resolved Question:

How does the summer heat and sun radiance in Phoenix Arizona effect a synthetic wig? I know that roofs on cars get pretty hot. How does this effect a synthetic wig? This is just a regular synthetic wig. Are people able to wear them in this weather situation before they get ruined?

People are able to wear synthetic wigs in the Phoenix climate. The sun will cause the hair to fade in color if the wearer is out in the sun a lot. You'll also want to consider comfort. Wearing a wig in the heat can be like wearing a hat.

The routine care of synthetic wigs will take a greater toll on them than will the sun. Too frequent washing or the use of many styling products cause the hairs to wear and become frayed. Many stylists say not to expect more than a year of use from a wig if it is worn often. Here is a site where you can read more about the care of a synthetic wig:

How do you know this? And setting aside that the hair is washed even more from sweating, how long could a synthetic wig last someone if worn everyday?

Of course, no scientific studies have been done on this. We have reports from women who wear wigs in various climates. Those who wear them in hot areas believe that the reason they don't last as long is because the wearer's head sweats more in hot climates, leading to the wig needing to be washed more often, so that means we can't really set aside that fact. The frequent washing leads to deterioration of the fibers in the wig. People who wear wigs every day report that they get about 6 months of use from them. Those who don't wear them that often may get a year. Wig wearers also report that human hair wigs last much longer, regardless of climate. However, human hair does fade more than synthetic ones, but a beautician can color a human hair wig to restore it. You can read more on this subject as reported by wig wearers here:

I don't live in a climate where it's hot all year, but do live where it's hot and humid in the summer, and dry, windy, and cold in the winter. I have worn wigs for a number of years. I've found the wind to be the hardest on them as it whips and tangles the fibers. My synthetic wigs, worn every other day, last about 9 months. I had a human hair wig which still looked good after 4 years of daily wear. Everyone has a different experience, so all you can do is talk to other people about them, and also to the sellers of wigs. Certain brands and styles may be more durable, and knowledgeable wig salespeople will know which ones.

I hope this helps.
