The answer really depends on the maturity of the children. Some children at that age can make their own breakfast, brew and deliver your tea or coffee to you in bed. Others can't manage to pour milk into a bowl of cereal without destroying the kitchen. I would not be comfortable having most children use the toaster or microwave, but if they are neat they should be able to manage cold cereal on their own.
