I want to publish a children's book my daughter and I wrote together - we'd like much of the proceeds to go to a charity - how do we go about publishing it? We are in San Francisco Bay Area. We co-wrote it and my daughter (who is 6!) did the illustrations - so we are not talking lovely illustrations.

Hello Customer, are you seeking to self-publish the book?
i dont know what that means
Hi Customer - self-publishing is a process by which you can either go to a Web site, upload your files and illustrations, and have books printed, or go to a site, provide a digital file, and receive assistance with binding and page layout. I thought, since you want most of the proceeds to go to charity, this might be your best option.
What are the pros and cons of self vs. not self?
have to check on kids - back later. thank you for helping
Self-publishing takes considerably less time, but you pay for the publishing up front. If you want to go the traditional route for book publishing, you will need to submit your manuscript to a publishing house (which traditionally does not use the illustrations of other than its in-house or contract illustrators), and wait for a response as to whether or not they are interested in your book. If they are interested, the publication can take months and even a year or more to occur, depending on the theme of the book, and when and whether the publisher believes it would be beneficial to release it. Additionally, the proceeds of the book go to the publisher, with a certain percentage to you, as negotiated by you or an agent you retain. That percentage would be the amount that would be available for donation to your charity.
