Hello and thank you for using Just Answer.

As far as working from home, I think the legitimacy depends on what your computer skills are. Some computer skills lend themselves more easily to earning money from home with a computer than others.

For example, you're less likely to find an unskilled work-at-home business that will pay you such as licking envelopes although I know of two people who earn money from home doing manual labor such as sewing on sorority monograms and shaping large copper cookie cutters! Which just goes to show there are all kinds of jobs out there.

However, if you can do computer illustration, photography, etc., you can earn a good income from sites such as www.shutterstock.com or www.bigstockphoto.com.

If you can program code or design websites, you can earn money working for clients that you never actually meet. There are many sites that link computer workers with such skills to potential clients such as www.freelancer.com or www.guru.com. Sometimes such connections can even be made through an ad on Craigslist. Be careful, though, and protect yourself with contracts and with new working relationships, always ask for half your fees up front. You will also want to protect yourself if you are freelancing by starting your own business and registering with your city, county, state and federal governments for the appropriate licensure.

There are computer based work at home jobs - they just depend on your capabilities. For example, can you do medical transcription?

A good rule of thumb is that if you have to pay for information about the opportunities, it is usually a scam. If the company and/or work is legitimate, they generally will not require fees.

You can also work from home earning money through Ebay and other selling sites. These allow relatively unskilled computer workers to make money while cleaning out your home as well.

If you are a writer, you can write for www.suite101.com which is one of many online writing sites.

Think about the type of work you do now and how it can be transferred to the work-at-home environment. If you work in the computer field, chances are a great deal of your daily work can be done remotely.

If you have found this information helpful, please ACCEPT and leave FEEDBACK. If you have any further questions on the subject, please respond.

Thank you! Good luck! The opportunities are out there, it just may take some personal reflection on what it is exactly you want to find and then some very specific research.

Sincerely,
Lizabeth

p.s. Another option is to visit Robert Half's Creative Services division - they tend to place computer consulting employees by matching them up with temporary contract workers with the appropriate skills. Some of these are jobs that can be done from home while some are traditional, on-site employment. www.creativegroup.com
