HelloCustomer welcome to Just Answer.

Religion can be separated in 2 parts, cosmogony and politic.

Cosmogony is how they explain creation, and the politic is the way the conduit code is written.

Many share the same cosmogony and they only developed variant over time that when you cut all the fat are very similar. Some are very original and different that said. It depend of what you refer to "new religion", i would not even put Islam in old religion. I would say that older one tend to be polytheist while the new ones follow the one god model.

Lot are similar when they came from similar root and evolved or were forked for a divergence of interpretation or authority. Another factor that made older similar is assimilation of other religion in military conquest and also missionaries that exported many concepts.

Most religion share the same politics. One of the last thing to get "harmonized" politics is the place of women, Islam is still behind in this the Christian were not that better some times ago.

I would also say that newer religion are less violent.
