Hi,

You can try various websites to try to find this information; most charge fees, to search, but some do not. There would be a fee to obtain a copy of the birth certificate from a State/County agency, though:

http://birthdatabase.net/nebraska/birth-records.htm   (the written birth records began in 1904, but you can contact the Clerk of the County where your grandfather was born, on this site, to try to locate earlier birth records)

http://www.ancestry.com/

If you are not successful with the Nebraska information, try Franklin, NV. Knowing the name of the county he was born in, might also be helpful.

I wish you much good luck in your search!

Thank you Cher,

I am just so frustrated! I know that my grandfather was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. That is where I got the info on his birth and death. It says he died on May 30, 1929. I had no luck on that website. He went by XXXXX XXXXX but on this letter from Woodmen he is listed as Jerome I. Gray. I looked for info from Franklin, NV but there doesn't seem to be such a place. I keep getting referred to Nebraska and on my dad's birth certificate it says that his father (Jack/Jerome) was born in Nebraska. Thank you for your help

Hi again, and you're most welcome.

I can understand your frustration with this situation, but I would recommend that you just keep searching with all the information you do have, and sometimes, one website leads you to another, and so and so forth, so you might get lucky. If you know the date of his death, as you mentioned, you can search death records, too, use all the names you have from the Woodmen and your family's knowledge. It's possible that Franklin was the 'County' and not a city? Check out Franklin County in Nevada.

Your best bet is to contact the governments of the States (Nebraska and Nevada) where you think he was born/died, and get some guidance from them to try to find more information. If you follow all leads you have and/or get in the future, hopefully, you will be successful, but you already know it will take a while.
