Reply to Gerald's Post: This response was certainly not worth $15.00, but thank you.

I assume you know that by going to piano blue book, it costs another $20.00, I could have done that in the first place. I didn't need your expertise for that.
Here is something more along the lines of what you want to know.

Here is one reference where a person's Whitney Kimball piano was evaluated at $450-$600 (but this was in 2004):

Here is a more current ad where the owners are asking $600:

Here is one on Craigslist, also for $600, with photo:

Here is one, for $350, also with photo:

There are other comparable offerings, all of which will constitute your "comparable sales" and your competition.

Based on my own experience both buying and selling two used pianos in the last five years, I would estimate the actual selling price of your piano, if you can find the "right person" locally, to be $450 to $550, depending on the condition, whether or not you have a matching bench (worth another $50 to $75 in my experience), and whether or not the buyer has a small child ready for piano lessons!

Hope these thoughts help.

Do you think your estimate of $450 to $550 would match the blue book value. I don't want to pay twice for the information on the piano. It will cut into the profit.
Here is how it works at Just Answer. You made a deposit, which is greatly appreciated, but your deposit is not actually spent until you get an answer that you Accept. When you click Accept your deposit is split between the company and the Expert whose answer you Accepted.

Because of the lack of responsiveness of the previous answer, I have already entered your request for a refund of your deposit. If you do nothing, your deposit will be refunded. If you Accept my answer, your deposit will be applied.

The "blue book" for pianos is less reliable than the comparable blue book for cars. Pianos are harder to sell than cars - fewer people have them, fewer people want them, and determining the actual condition of a piano is a specialty. Additionally, the actual person-to-person selling price of a piano is a function of individual circumstances.

I just this spring sold an 1895 piano (yes, 1895, more than 110 years old) in great working condition to a neighbor. It was an upright, BIG soundboard just like a grand piano has, good action and good tone and original ivory keys. I accepted so much down and so much a month since it was a neighbor. I accepted $800.

Which is another reason I estimated your piano's value as I did.

When others are selling comparable instruments on line, that is a more valuable benchmark for a true estimate of value than any blue book number.

I hope these thoughts help.
